Farewell Letter from
2003 FDA Executive Committee President Wendy Magness
posted 12/27/03
Hello Everyone,
What a great year! I have learned so much about our Fayetteville Ultimate club. For an organization with such a
small membership we are a busy little group. We have had several fund raisers, some more successful than others, but all
worthwhile. We had two great leagues, and two great tournaments. I've been lucky to be part of such a great year, and a
great committee. I have also been lucky to have so much help from members of previous committees; their help has been a
precious commodity to me. I am sending much thanks to them all!
There are so many people who helped me in my endeavors as the FDA President. Most of which were not even
on this Committee. First off, I would like to thank Amy Eversole. She guided me through the times I really lacked the
experience and confidence that has been represented in our previous presidents. She swept away any debris on my path so
I could see clearly which way to go. I could have not been The Kids Triathlon Director without her. I had the most
anxiety about that particular task. It was and is a very important event that we would like to do as an Organization in
the future and I didn't want to screw it up. She calmed my nerves more than once. I would like to acknowledge the fact
that she helped me in many other areas but the Kids Tri was the biggie I needed the most input on. Thank You Amy, I do
appreciate your experience and the willingness to extend it to me.
Another person who made the Kids Tri a success was Jon Bitler. He helped out more than was called for.
He was able to get all those beautiful volunteers. By the way they also deserve acknowledgment for being there. I am
sure the upcoming committee will be looking for you all again this year. Thanks to Jon for all the help he was so willing
to give; there was much needed. Jon's experience as treasurer from a previous term with the FDA helped out a lot. I
found myself calling on him quite a bit. Thank you Bitty!
In case any of you didn't know, Joy Endicott kicks bootay! We all can thank Joy for keeping our website
up to date, and advising me on some things that reared their ugly heads up throughout the year. I called her many times
to just flat out ask for guidance and advice. Her extensive experience with the city helped us all out. And lets face it
anyone who lives with Wayne Ramsey deserves a huge pat on the back, just kidding, but that does bring me to Wayne.
Mr. Wayne we thank you sooooo much for all your help too. Wayne did a lot this year that needs to be pointed out as well.
He was, as usual, a great TD for our Dan Gabor Tourney. I am sure he will step up to the plate again this upcoming year.
He was able to take an initial idea from Amy P, and turn it into our Harvest Moon 13 disc design. You did a great job
on it Wayne. Everyone I heard from loved it. He also took care of the programs for Harvest and, as well as everyone
mentioned above, gave me great advice throughout this past year. I would like to send out a huge hug and thanks to Joy
and Wayne for being such good friends and advisors to me this past year. My appreciation is barely extendable in words.
THANK YOU!
There are so many people that helped with Harvest Moon that it would be impossible for me to list them
all but I do want to touch on a few people that made Harvest Moon 13 possible. First of all, Phillip Watson, thank you
for all your help on the Marshalltown fields. You have really taken the ball and run with it. The FDA has supplied Phil
with the necessary equipment to continue the great work he has begun. We will be able to enjoy the benefits as soon as
the Winter League tournament. Thanks again Phil. Next I would like to mention a big Thank You to John Schmuecker. His
help throughout the years has been a major part of keeping the FDA going. Donations galore! He did a great job running
the captains meeting for the open division and helping out John Bailey so much. We Thank You Schmuecker! Now on to
Liz O'Connel, she was a large asset to our tournament this year as well. We would like to thank you for running the
women's division. You did a great job as usual, despite the key issues of the weekend. All went well and you did a great
job keeping everyone on time. Sometimes capping games can be the hardest part of the job. You continued to keep a great
attitude and spirit throughout the whole weekend. Thanks so much Liz! To Sam Dodd we send a huge thanks to you for all
your work you've put into those lovely trophies throughout the years. We love you Sam, keep up the great work! Next, we
want to Thank Kellie Rollins for all her help selling ads for the program and giving ZOOM a place to put together player
packs. Also getting us the propane burners on such short notice. You are a resourceful woman with the energy of a
"Tasmanian devil" and we appreciate the enthusiasm you put into everything you do. I would get in major trouble if I
didn't mention all the time and work that my girl Stacey Whitley and her little girl (yes they're having a girl!) put
into selling merchandise. She, and everyone involved in pushing our merch should receive much kudos. I love ya girl!
Thanks a bunch. For those of you I have missed you can send all your comments to wendymae10@yahoo.com. I apologize for
my forgetfulness now.
Well, there it is, my last article of the year. Man, it feels great to have been a part of such a
great year. I would like to mention the Executive Committee that I got to work with. They will never know how much I
learned by serving with them; and did I learn a lot! I will continue to show my support for the FDA and all that we
do throughout the years. It has been my pleasure to represent this organization and I am proud to be a part of it.
Thank you to everyone!
Wendy Mae!
