Pablo is league coordinator (443-4921, PLOWREY@nwacc.cc.ar.us).
League costs ten bucks, and you must also be a paid FDA
member. New recruits do not pay league fees, but must join the FDA.
from your illustrious League Director, El Pablo:
Until we have team names, this is the closest I could come to describing the shirt colors:
Scott -- Tomato, or Tangelo if you prefer
Kevin -- Midori
Dave -- Pig or Lung
Daniel -- Bark or Drab
John -- Tusk
Suggestions and/or team names are welcome.
Week 1 Results
Tomato 11, Midori 2
Pig 10, Bark 7
Tusk 11, Midori 4
Pig 11, Tomato 10
Bark beat Bark in an intrasquad exhibition
The following dogs disrupted play and therefore have one strike against them: Tucker, River (?), Zoey, Buster.
Please inform the owners. If there were others please let me know.
Three strikes and the dog is banned from league. Captains, please make sure your players understand the rule.
Week 2 -- July 19 Results
Orange 12, Moss 11
Pink 11, Cream 10
Moss 11, Green 7
Orange 11, Cream 10
Nailbiters have been frequent in league so far. John Bailey's Cream Team (1-2), is just two points away from being 3-0, while Dave Wise's Pink Team (3-0) is two points away from being 1-2.
Jackson the dog picked up his first strike; this was the only dog brought to my attention.
Remember that we play across the street next week at the Lewis fields.
Standings (7/20):
Dave Wise (Pink) 3-0
Scott Letts (Orange) 3-1
John Bailey (Cream) 1-2
Daniel Marsh (Moss) 1-2
Kevin Bennoch (Green) 0-3
Week 3 --July 26 Results
Pink 11, Green 5
Tree Bark 10, Cream 9
Tang 11, Green 7
Pink 11, Tree Bark 9
Standings (7/27):
Dave Wise (Pink) 5-0
Scott Letts (Tang) 4-1
Daniel Marsh (Bark) 2-3
John Bailey (Cream) 1-3
Kevin Bennoch (Green) 0-5
Strikes: Conner, Pancho, Tucker. Tucker has two strikes.
Pink continues to live on the edge, winning another close game at the cap to remain undefeated. Tang fell behind 7-5 to Green but scored the last six points to win. The highlight was the wet 'n' wild game between Bark and Cream. Cream appeared to be in control until the sprinklers on their field popped up for the final 15 minutes of the game, leading to a comeback win for the Barkers at the cap. The 1-3 Cream team is still only five points or so from being undefeated.
Next week's games are back across the street at Asbell. Both games will be shortened by five minutes because of increasingly earlier sunsets.
Week 4 -- August 2 Results
Tang 9, Pink 7
Cream 8, Green 7
Bark/Moss 11, Tang 8
Cream 11, Pink 8
Standings (8/3):
Dave Wise (Pink) 5-2
Scott Letts (Tang) 5-2
Daniel Marsh (Bark) 3-3
John Bailey (Cream) 3-3
Kevin Bennoch (Green) 0-6
Strikes: Tucker, Lucy. Tucker has struck out and is banished from league, according to Captains' Law. We look forward to seeing him at other practices.
I got your parity right here, Tagliabue! With one week of play remaining, four of the five teams still have a shot at first place. Pink and Tang still control their own destiny, while Bark and Cream can take first with a little help. Bailey's (Irish) Creamers played yet another squeaker but finally came out on top, beating Green 8-7 at the cap. In the showdown rematch of the teams with the top two records, Tang avenged their earlier loss to Pink, 9-7. This game would prove costly, as both teams went on to lose their next game -- Tang getting spanked 11-8 by Bark, and Pink falling by the same score to the Creamers, who appear to be peaking at the right time.
Captains: PLEASE GET LEAGUE DUES TO JON
Players: PLEASE PAY YOUR CAPTAIN
Below are several complaints that have been addressed to me as the league dude, followed by my responses:
1) Why was is the league tourney so soon (2 days) after the end of the regular season?
A: It just worked out that way. There is no conspiracy. Memphis tourney is the following weekend. If not the 11th, the tourney would have to be on the 25th, more than two weeks after season's end. We would lose continuity. If you have preferences for dates/times in future leagues, please inform an FDA officer of your ideas.
2) How can my game start at 6:15 and be capped at 7:00?
A: No games start at 6:15. You might not have begun playing until 6:15, but the game clock starts at 6:00 with a soft cap in one hour and hard cap in 1:10. This arrangement was agreed upon by the captains. This is necessary in order to complete two games before dark.
Game 1: Begin at 6:00, soft cap at 7:00, hard cap 7:10
Game 2: Begin at 7:15, soft cap at 8:15, hard cap 8:25
3) Why didn't I hear the soft cap/hard cap whistle?
A: Probably because I didn't blow it loud enough from a central location. I apologize, and will try to improve upon this in the future. I don't have a horn. The ideal solution to this is a non-playing coordinator or timekeeper. I am skeptical of the existence of such an animal in Fayetteville. I have tried to enlist the "bye-round captain" for this duty, but he often can't be located.
4) Where's my stuff? (OK I made this one up)
A: If your stuff is a towel, a Bart Simpson shirt, a UofA disc from Centex, or a red water jug with a cold can of Colt .45 Malt Liquor inside, I have it. The Colt .45 is probably gone; I gave it to Bob.
